First, she excelled as an equestrian, competing in numerous events to showcase her love for horses. Additionally, she nurtured her interest in acting, honing her skills through acting classes.
Bo Derek’s career saw notable moments, including her appearance in the 1977 film “Orca,” reminiscent of “Jaws,” where a killer whale bites off her leg. However, it was Blake Edwards’ 1979 film “10” that propelled her to stardom. It was during this period that her distinctive blonde braided hair became iconic.
Despite this breakout role, Bo did not pursue a career primarily in action-packed or daring films thereafter. Some notable titles include “Tarzan, The Ape Man” (1981), “Bolero“ (1984), and “Ghosts Can’t Do It” (1990).

Bo met director John Derek when she was just 16 years old, while he was married to actress Linda Evans. They began dating a few years later, but due to legal restrictions, they had to travel to Mexico and Europe to avoid complications. John, aged 48, and Bo, aged 19, married shortly after.
In an Interview Magazine interview, Bo expressed guilt about Linda Evans’ suffering, saying, “I was at least partially to blame for some serious suffering she experienced.” Despite this, Bo described Linda as polite and considerate, even seeing her recently at a charity event where she found her “equally amazing and delightful.”
Afterward, John and Bo Derek began collaborating on projects together. John often encouraged Bo to showcase her physique in his low-budget films, which generated publicity for both their projects, elevating Bo’s profile in Hollywood.

Sadly, John Derek passed away from cardiovascular illness in 1998 at the age of 71. Bo Derek expressed that she never expected to connect deeply with anyone again after his passing. She was deeply devastated by his loss.

Bo Derek’s compassion extends beyond animals. She was honored with the appointment as the honorary National Rehabilitation Special Events chair by the VA. In her own words, “VA’s National Rehabilitation Special Events promote the healing of body and spirit, helping veterans enhance their quality of life and regain independence.”
She expressed deep gratitude and humility in serving as the honorary chair for such a noble cause benefiting America’s veterans.
Bo Derek is currently married to “Sex and the City” star John Corbett, with whom she has spent over two decades. They chose to marry in secret, surrounded only by their closest friends and family, without making any public announcements.
